Staff

Our staff team is just that: a team. Each team member has a specific and distinctive role to play. Based upon gifting, calling, experience, capacity and skills, staff members work to "equip the saints for the work of ministry." (Ephesians 4:12).

Seeing God’s people exist together and relate unto one another as a true covenant people has been one of the great passions of my life.  As Bonhoeffer says, "Christianity means community through Jesus Christ and in Jesus Christ."  A second great passion of mine has been seeing God’s people distinctly express how great our Savior is by how they talk about Him and live life for Him among our neighbors.

So when given the opportunity to serve with the staff of Grace Fellowship Church in helping them achieve their vision of "Building a Community to Reach a Community", it was an easy decision for me to make.  The ideas of mission and community have long been core values that have marked much of my Christian life and values I believe to be very dear to the heart of God.  I feel very fortunate and blessed to serve alongside Grace Fellowship Kingsport in this capacity.

My wife, Celeste, and I moved to Kingsport from Denton, Texas where we both were trained up through the discipleship program and ministries of Denton Bible Church.  I attended Dallas Theological Seminary in 2002 and graduated in 2008 with a Th.M. in Pastoral Leadership/Historical Theology.  We currently have one child, Ellis, who is the joy of our lives.

I consider it joy to be a part of Grace Fellowship here in Kingsport. It has been a great four years.

A prayer of mine is that our worship be induced by the truth of God and never be generated or provoked by anything but that truth, which is provocative enough; and that come ten years from now we would be looked to in this community as a strong worshiping body whose heart is eager for gathered worship, and whose enthusiasm in gathered worship is deeply-rooted, honest, and Spirited.

Now as for me, my childhood was spent in Cincinnati with a family of musicians, complete with unstoppable home-cooking, the perfect climbing tree in the back, and a front yard worn down to dirt from years of basketball, football, and hockey. Brought up in a believing home, I took to life in the mountains of Tennessee nearly nine years ago, and began to believe for my own. Surely it helps to be surrounded by the good folks of Grace Fellowship as I continue to work out my faith in community and service. I’m very grateful.

I accepted Christ as my Savior nearly twenty-five years ago.  Those twenty-five years have held tremendous adventures - failures and successes as I’ve endeavored to know God and to grow with the people God has brought into my life.  Today, the most significant person in my life is my amazing wife, Denise.   We’ve been married for nearly fleeting 19 years … “and it just keeps getting better and more interesting!”  Our kids:  Jordan (16), Zach (12) and Nate (9) keep things lively playing football, baseball, guitar, trumpet, keyboards, Wii, and of course (with a 16 year old) driving.  Please pray for us.

Participating in the adventure of starting Grace Fellowship Church has been an exciting ride for me and my family. From the word go, this endeavor was launched to reach Kingsport and beyond with the life-changing love of Jesus and I count it an awesome privilege to serve along-side of this group of believers as lead pastor. We’re all excited about what God has in store for this church in the years to come.

My wife Rebecca and I are originally from Kentucky. My ministry experience includes serving on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ, and also working as an associate pastor while attending Dallas Theological Seminary. After I graduated from seminary with a Master of Theology degree, we moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, to participate in a church-planting residency sponsored by Fellowship Bible Church.

I've been married to my phenomenal wife for over twelve years now and we have two swell kids who share our love for fun, adventure, and creating things. I also enjoy good books with strong coffee, games, movies, nature, and great friends.

I'm so happy to have joined the staff here at Grace Fellowship. I have lived in Kingsport since June 2006 (from San Diego), and absolutely love it! I'm especially excited to meet all of you very soon... I am honored to get to work with everyone here, and look forward to the opportunity to grow into a true southerner.  My husband Drew and I have started a car club ministry called Grace Drives.  Please join us at one of our monthly meetings!
